Discover how the Riff Men's Endless Promise Down Sleeping Bag combines ultralight packability with warmth for cold weather camping. Our buying guide covers fit, temperature ratings, and trade-offs.
Quick answer
The Riff Men's Endless Promise Down Sleeping Bag is an excellent choice for cold weather camping if you're a side sleeper who values ultralight packability and 800 FP down warmth. It's not ideal for very wide shoulders or extreme winter temperatures.
Why the Riff works for cold weather
The Riff uses 800 FP down insulation, which traps heat efficiently without adding bulk. Its Spoon shape gives extra room at the elbows and knees, allowing side sleepers to shift positions without losing warmth. The trim athletic cut at the feet and shoulders reduces dead air space, helping the bag heat up faster in chilly conditions.
Trade-offs to consider
The Riff's ultralight design means less insulation than a winter-rated bag, so it's best for 3-season use with cold snaps down to about 20°F. If you sleep very cold or camp in sub-freezing conditions regularly, you may need a warmer bag or a liner. Also, the athletic cut may feel restrictive for broad-shouldered campers who prefer a roomier fit.
Decision rules for the Riff Men's Down Sleeping Bag
- Choose the Riff if:: You are a side sleeper who wants a lightweight, packable down bag for 3-season camping with occasional cold nights. The Spoon shape lets you curl up or stretch out without fighting the bag.
- Consider a different bag if:: You have broad shoulders or prefer a very roomy fit. The Riff's athletic cut at the shoulders and feet may feel snug. Look for a regular Spoon bag like the Disco for more space.
- Temperature rating check:: The Riff is a 3-season bag. For consistent winter camping below 20°F, you'll need a bag with more fill or a lower temperature rating. Pairing with an insulated sleeping pad helps extend its range. Always check the EN/ISO comfort rating for your sleeping style and local conditions.
